What a validator actually does
It produces and confirms blocks, which is what keeps the network running and its transactions final. In exchange it earns rewards, and it is penalised when it goes offline or misbehaves. That penalty is the reason a validator is a fair test of whether someone can actually operate infrastructure.
How we run it
On infrastructure we operate ourselves, with the same practices we apply to client systems: hardware-key access, no password logins, encrypted disks, automatic security updates and monitoring that alerts a person rather than a log file.
